John 21:1-14
Jesus showed himself again to the disciples. It was by the Sea of Tiberias, and it happened like this: Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee and two more of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said, ‘I’m going fishing.’
Those early days after the resurrection were not easy for the disciples and for the Risen Christ. See we have the luxury of knowing how this story ends or rather grows but I bet it was incredibly confusing for the disciples. Imagine the uncertainty of the who affair. Imagine the fear and the tension in Jerusalem.
Peter and the disciples went back to fishing. The dream had come to an end and maybe they had given up. Has your dream ever been dashed? Have you ever worked so hard only to find yourself back where you started? Listen you are not the same person you were when it all started. It may seem as if you have not made progress but you have. So what seems like a set back may actually be a moment for you to “reload” a moment for you to look at everything and get back to your calling.
Jesus after his resurrection is running around consoling and encouraging his friends to press on. He comes to us today and says “I understand your discouragement but dig deep within and get back ministry”.
