Matthew 19:16-22

There was a man who came to Jesus and asked, ‘Master, what good deed must I do to possess eternal life?’

Yes Jesus cut to the point, what do I need to do? Oh if only life in the Kingdom was about doing this and that. How many masses can one miss and still be ok? How many soup kitchens do I have to serve at?

Listen folks it is not about doing this or that act. It is about becoming. St. John the Baptist and many other saints have given us a clear picture of what should be happening on our spiritual journey. He increases and I decrease. In other words we let ourselves be transformed into the image of Christ.

This is not something incredibly difficult you know? You have already been doing it. Think of the many times you have denied yourself so that your children can have. Yes you are decreasing and are happy to do so in order to give your children the best life.

So today I pray for your journey of becoming. May you become more and more everyday a channel of God’s grace.
