Luke 12-13-21
A man in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Master, tell my brother to give me a share of our inheritance.’ ‘My friend,’ he replied, ‘who appointed me your judge, or the arbitrator of your claims?’ Then he said to them, ‘Watch, and be on your guard against avarice of any kind, for a man’s life is not made secure by what he owns, even when he has more than he needs.’
What enriches your life? What makes us content? Yesterday I was a wee bit early for Mass in Lebanon and I found two homeless people at the door of the church. They were asleep with everything that they have. With them was a very happy dog. They were respectful and although it was raining they paced their items and moved on so we could have Mass. I am thinking about them this morning and hoping that things change and they find a house. But this got me thinking of what I truly have. What truly enriches me is my family and the network of friends we have built here. Today Our Lord invites us to make sure we spend time nourishing what really matters in life. It is not about possessions, it is about a rich relationship with our family and Mother Nature.
