Luke 7:31-35

For John the Baptist comes, not eating bread, not drinking wine, and you say, “He is possessed.” The Son of Man comes, eating and drinking, and you say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”

In today’s reading Jesus wonders about the men of his generation. Even when the hand of God is ever so clear in their sight, they don’t see it. They ask for a clearer sign which will leave no doubt. But Jesus realizes that there is no pleasing or convincing of these men of his generation. They have shut their senses to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

What about you my friend? Are we any different to those who would not see the hand of God in Jesus life? To bring it even closer we need to ask if we see God at work in us. Every morning when I say the Lord’s Prayer I pause after this line “… Your will be done everywhere as it is done here in my life…” I say the Aramaic version of the prayer. You probably say “your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…”

The Son of Man comes to us in the most ordinary of ways but sometimes we miss his presence because our eyes are looking into the skies. Look around, God is present.
