Matthew 13:1-9
Jesus said, ‘Imagine a sower going out to sow. As he sowed, some seeds fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up straight away, because there was no depth of earth; but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away. Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Others fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Listen, anyone who has ears.
I always thought this parable was about different people and how they receive the word of God. I so wanted to be the fertile soil which received the word of God and produced great fruit. But I realized something deeper as I age. These are the different stages of my life. As a youth nothing really took root. It did but life is also a great teacher. I had not experienced enough life for the word to completely take root.
So be patient and honest with yourself as you read this passage. I think we are all these different soils and we never really completely outgrow them. Hake even in my old age depending on other factors, other things going on in our lives we may not be in a place to listen. So be patient, this grace of God that has led you here will work with you so that the precious word of God takes root.
