Mark 7:35-37

Returning from the district of Tyre, Jesus went by way of Sidon towards the Sea of Galilee, right through the Decapolis region. And they brought him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they asked him to lay his hand on him

Today I have the distinguished honor of burying my friend and sister Melissa Bridgewater Young. Being at her wake last night was difficult. Her body was laying there but her spirit filled the room. They were kids running around, a long line of friends paying their respects and every one feeling included. It was indeed a miracle. How can someone who is dead feel so alive? Then the scriptures came alive “the dead shall rise.” Something about her was rising, living on.

Today’s gospel passage in the land of Sidon they bring to the Lord one who could not speak. What stops from speaking? Are you overwhelmed with a guilt of some past sin that you can’t find your voice to tell of his mercy? Don’t you speak because you don’t know how to? Or have others told you to stop speaking. Jesus frees the spirit and frees the tongue. Find your own was of announcing that God is here. The world needs your story beautiful soul.
