Luke 13:18-21

Jesus said, ‘What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it with? It is like a mustard seed which a man took and threw into his garden: it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air sheltered in its branches.’

They probably laughed at this comparison. And it may have been all that others needed to declare that Jesus was cracked, mad.

This comparison is ridiculous on its face for the people who walked with the Lord. See it would have made sense to compare the Kingdom of God to The Lebanon Cedar. A majestic tree with deep roots. The mustard tree or rather bush cannot truly describe the kingdom of God. It is everywhere and hard to kill off. You walk outside and there it is.

Has anyone ever told you that you are not that special and still remained your friend? What Jesus is saying is that God is everywhere, even in the church wink wink. This Kingdom is always finding a way and welcomes all sorts. It does not only welcome the elites who have the strength to fly high as the elite birds that occupy the Lebanon Cedar. No ….. God’s kingdom is as easily accessible as the mustard bush.

Am sorry if I upset you with this but truth be told this idea of the accessibility of the Kingdom got Jesus nailed to a cross. Go about giving access to the Kingdom for all kinds of people and see what will happen to you. I have the scars……
